Pro Awards: Celebrating Event Photography

The Best Amateur trophy was won by Anthony Black, while the Peoples’ Choice Awards, voted on by guests at the awards event, was won by Mac Praed’s Leap of Faith, which was also runner-up in the Music Events – Audiences category.

The awards also featured a new Black & White Award, which was won by German music specialist, Afra Gethöffer-Grütz, but the big new element of this year’s competition and ceremony was the additional accolade of Event Photographer of the Year, which was bestowed in conjunction with the coveted Best Portfolio award and was won by first time entrant, Marc James, who, along with the new trophy, also received a cheque for £1,000.

Gathering momentum, the Event Photography Awards attracted over 2300 entries from 20 countries this time around, spread across 18 core categories, while the gala presentation was attended by over 300 guests.

“Photography does so much to amplify, justify and sustain the events industry, which itself is an increasingly important element in marketing budgets, let alone economies and society as a whole,” commented competition founder Philip Atkins, CEO of event staffing agency Off to Work. “It was generally agreed amongst the judges that the competition was as enjoyable and insightful as ever, with a plethora of inspiring, amusing and moving images that encapsulated the importance and impact events.”

Competition & Event Director, Graham Hill, was also delighted to see the event industry being honoured in this way. “As ever, especially as a not-for-profit exercise, we owe huge debts of gratitude to our sponsors and event partners for making the competition possible and awards event enormously enjoyable,” he said, “not least this year’s new venue and catering partners, Central Hall Westminster, which had the perfect spaces for the event, and Green & Fortune, who knocked the food out of the park.

“Thanks also go to the array of some sixty judges, who had well over 500 long-listed images to review across the eighteen core categories, as well as all the photographers that entered and the guests that attended the hugely enjoyable awards event.”
