King Charles III has urged AI leaders to establish safeguards as increasingly powerful systems raise questions about human control. Speaking at a September 17 summit at Dumfries House in Scotland, the King acknowledged artificial intelligence’s potential to improve and save lives while warning of “existential dangers” if the technology falls into the wrong hands. Representatives from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI and Anthropic attended the gathering, which explored principles for responsible AI development. Charles asked whether sufficient controls could be established “before it is all too late,” arguing that AI should remain firmly in service of humanity.
