Lucy Hale Loves a Good Throw Pillow

The living room in actor Lucy Hale’s Los Angeles home has a sloped ceiling with exposed dark-wood beams. In the center of the room lies a marble coffee table decorated with colorful hardcovers and an artfully drooping bouquet of white cosmos. One couch is dusty-rose pink, the other upholstered with a black-and-white striped fabric designed by Kelly Wearstler. A fringed, floral Gucci pillow sits on top of the bold print. The pairing shouldn’t work together, but somehow it does.

Designers Ashley Drost and Marie Trohman of Proem, who designed the home in collaboration with Hale, say they let their client’s “fun, instinctive,” and “witchy” taste lead the way. The vintage Gucci pillow “landed on the Wearstler sofa almost by accident during move-in and just stayed,” Drost tells me. The designers saw Hale’s taste come through in the placement: “The floral against the graphic stripe was unexpected, personal, a little irreverent.”
