itstillworks-final-final4.psd, except there was no reason to save prior versions, really.

The last part of my eighth-fold zine process is nudging text and images around so they’re optimally spaced for printing and folding, but for this one, I also kept making minor text updates as I went, so various friends got not-quite-final versions of the zine, lol.

Late in the progress, I also thought it would probably be better to have the items in reverse chronological order for effect, but redoing the image spacing would’ve been too annoying at that point, so whatever!!!

Here is an easier-to-read digital version (with alt text), but you still gotta squint at my tiny handwriting (not included in alt text), sorry. The original drawings for this are, in fact, zine-sized, so they are tiny.

I updated the blurb on the bike page to note that keeping a frame forever isn’t really the frugal option (though it’s not not frugal, I guess), though part of that is just because I ride a lot and hate doing maintenance myself and highly prefer to offload that labour to local shops, which is not cheap. (It’s also not cheap to just trash your drivetrain on a regular basis because you can’t be bothered to clean it!!)

But getting a new bike every other year just because that costs about the same as a few years of maintenance feels ridiculous to me. Lots more can be said here, but zines force brevity…

The Photoshop blurb was my final edit (for now?), because after giving the zine to a Gen Z friend, I suddenly realised that he probably had no idea that software used to sometimes cost half a grand before subscription models became ubiquitous. (Fuck, I actually undershot the retail price of Photoshop CS5 (PDF). Do I edit this again lmao.)

Anyway!! I have and use lots of old stuff. It’s honestly mostly out of habit and aversion to change than frugality and anti-consumerism, but I’ve never understood the need for new stuff constantly.

I’ve actually been meaning to write a blog post about the long life of my Graphire2 for ages, but it feels like it’d make more sense to write about it after it dies, but it’s never dying, so???
